Sister Savings was raised in Mesa, Arizona as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was the 3rd of 10 children.  Her parents taught her the importance of being prepared, self-reliant and to always follow the Prophet. Her Mother was a wise shopper and knew how to stretch a dollar.  Sister Savings learned from both her parents how to organize and prioritize.

Years later when Sister Savings moved to Queen Creek, Arizona and was called as a Ward Relief Society President, she wanted to share her enthusiasm for preparedness with the Relief Society sisters in her ward.  In January 2006, she started sending out weekly emails to the sisters, which listed just a few food items that were on sale each week.  These emails encouraged the sisters to add to their food storage by purchasing extra items while they were on sale.  Doing this would accomplish two things; (1) to follow the Prophet by adding to their food storage, and (2) saving money while working towards self-reliance.

Over time, more detail was added to the weekly emails.  Women started forwarding the emails on to family and friends.  Then, each of those people also forwarded the weekly emails on to others….and so on….and so on….  When the weekly emails started to become wide-spread, the idea of having a name attached to it arose.  The name "Sister Savings" was chosen because this was an email between Relief Society Sisters and they all liked to save money.  Hence the name, Sister Savings, and this is how she would like to be known.

Sister Savings received requests daily from people that wanted to be added to the emailing distribution list, either for themselves or so that they could in-turn forward the emails on to the sisters in their wards or stakes.  With rapidly increasing numbers it became necessary to move the weekly sales from an email on to a web site.
